Far end followup

29 Dec 2014

(Three times!)

I got a nice email from Denwood Holmes, with a copy of an article to be published in the New England Historical Geneaological Society Register. It adds a great deal of substance to what was said in the blog post I linked to yesterday. I think he makes an excellent case that the old identification of the immigrant John HOLMES as black sheep son of Thomas HOLMES of Colchester is in fact correct. From there the evidence is good for a line back to William HOLME of Ramsden Bellhouse in the late 1400s, and more speculatively it may connect further back to the HOLME family of London and Tilston and Coddington in Cheshire, and to HOLME of Paull Holme, Yorkshire, and Bishopwearmouth.

Out of consideration for Denwood and his research I’ll not say any more for now — read the article when it appears.
